I have to admit… this was an emotional moment for me. It has been 49 years since The Blackhawks last won the Stanley Cup. I have been watching hockey and a die hard Blackhawks fan for 20 plus of those 49 years. Last night, when I watched Toews lift that cup over his head, something welled up inside of me.
There is an investment that we make in our tribes. And even though pushing a puck into a net is completely absurd, if not the model for everything absurd, in this moment I felt, we all felt such joy that it just didn’t matter. It was something that we, as a community, shared together with our tribe. That is a truly beautiful human moment.
I won’t forget this moment as it is forever etched in my memory. Toews lifted that cup for all of us who love the Blackhawks. In a way, he lifted that cup for all of us that love hockey; however I admit, it took a Blackhawk win for me to realize this perspective.
